He was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Beeville to Gus Luthringer Jr. and Ethel Hatcher Luthringer. He was a World War II veteran who served both the European and Pacific Theaters, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal as well as other numerous medals. He was employed by the Karnes City Independent School District as both an agricultural teacher and as a principal for more than 36 years. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Karnes City Retired Teachers.
Survivors include his wife of more than 62 years, Verline (Matheson) Luthringer of Karnes City; two daughters, Linda Bettin and Lisa (James) Hays, both of Karnes City; a son, R. Lynn (Kathy) Luthringer of Katy; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances Duffill.
Visitation was held Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.
The funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Karnes City. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. in the Lagarto Cemetery, with the Rev. Jay Fleming and Rev. Kevin Cornelius officiating.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Brian Bettin, Hayden Hays and Landon Hays, and grandsons-in-law, Fernando Zaragoza, James Schaefer and Joshua Vaughn.
Honorary pallbearers were Ray Tiemann, Joe Tiemann, Charles Bedford, Charles Brown and Walter Busby.
