Witnesses said they saw a 1999 Chevrolet Venture driven by Delphine Lauas Lawson pull out of the parking lot of the Bee Family Fun Center, a bowling alley in the north end of the city.
The driver of a northbound Chevrolet pickup, 23-year-old Omar Cano, said the sedan appeared in front of him before he could stop and he struck the vehicle in the driver’s side.
Patrolman Jonell Cisneros, who was sent to the scene at about 9:32 p.m., said he found the driver of the sedan had been pushed from behind the wheel of the car to the front seat passenger side. He said her head was down and she was unresponsive.
Cisneros talked to the two occupants of the pickup. Cano said his legs hurt and his passenger, 17-year-old Stephen Nienhouse, said he was hurting but he was unsure what his injuries might be.
Both men were taken to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville by Angel Care Ambulance Service with what Cisneros described as unknown injuries.
Justice of the Peace Raul Casarez later pronounced Lawson dead at the scene. Her body was taken to Angelus Funeral Home.
Bee County deputies were blaming a heavy fog for another accident on U.S. 181 south of the city at about 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Little information was available at press time Wednesday but deputies confirmed that a lone, female driver pulled out of a turnaround lane from the northbound lane and into the path of a southbound 18-wheeler carrying a flatbed trailer loaded with bags of dry concrete. The truck struck her vehicle on the passenger side front door.
The woman was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital by Angel Care Ambulance Service but she was responsive at the scene. The driver of the overturned truck was walking around at the scene with a bandage over his eye but he did not appear to be seriously hurt.
The Pontiac sedan remained upright but the Peterbilt truck, from Cantu Transporation of Mission, overturned, spilling dry concrete along the median of the highway.

1. Accidents can be avoided.
2. Mistakes happen
3. Age wasn't an issue ( from either party )
4. hate and ill words and feelings will not bring my grandmother back
I just wanted to say that my grandmother was one of the sweetest most loving people I have ever met and she wouldn't appreciate any bad words said on her behalf or others. She was a woman filled with love and forgiveness and I am sure she has forgiven anyone involved. We should never wish death on anyone and should really just learn from this and come together as a community to prevent future accidents.
My grandmother was young at heart and we were expecting many more great years with her, so even to say it was HER time is hurtful.
thank you Beeville for your support and comfort in my family's time of need.
On a personal note, I would like to say that in my trip to Beeville this weekend, I did notice a lack of awareness and care in that town's drivers, especially in the youth. I do think that it would be wise to make the intersections a little more safe and re-educate the drivers on overall awareness and safe interaction / speeds when on the road. I believe that if these things were done and all laws were abided by, this accident and others could be avoided in the future.
This was an accident she pulled out in front of him!! he DIDNT mean to hit her on PURPOSE!!
if he did then he would be in prision right now DONT you THINK obviouslty NOT!!
He is my family. and trust me he is grieving over this. and my sympathy goes out the the family of Mrs.Lawson.. && thank you for sticking up for him and STATING the FACTS!!!
obviously their are some ppl full of hatred in this town. WOW. Just Leave him alone.
cause Be careful of what you say,, it could turn
upon you, && HE SHOULDNT HAVE DIED. IT was HER time to go, We dont know how god is going to take us but one day we'll find out..!!!
i would love for you to come say that to my familys faces.. cause then we would once again STATE the facts. its already written on PAPER,
what more does an idiotic person need.
to make it comply in your head!!!
♥sorry for this accident
Thanks,
Beeville
You're an idiot.
So what you are telling us is that this young man is to blame for this death because of his, "irratic" driving and stupidity. Is he at fault? I don't know and do not have the information you seem to have to be so single-minded.
Nonetheless, ERRATIC driving and a lack of responsibility, or as you remarked, "stupidity" still do not make you judge for this young man. Skippy28 as for you to be convinced he should have died instead of her...yes my friend that is outright unethical.
You asked do I feel this guy should be able to go on with his life with no repercussions for what he has done.
Once again, is he at fault, was it an intentional act of violence, and was he cited for reckless driving or vehicular manslaughter?
Let us know.
Regardless, when any accident occurs and a death takes place...it's NEVER a good thing for ANYONE.
SKIPPY28, once again you owe both families an apology considering you have no idea how it has affected both of them...feelings of grief, guilt, sadness, etc.
In conclusion, I do not have a CLUE about your morality, but it has unquestionably been laid out.
As an EMS paramedic, my colleagues and I have seen many car accidents and when death take place...it's NEVER a good thing for ANYONE!!
The community of Beeville has lost a great woman and my heart goes out to the family of Delphine Lauas Lawson. Understand SKIPPY28, you owe both families an apology because it has beyond question affected both of them.
