As a resident and taxpayer of Bee County I am truly saddened at the attack on BISD schools. I support informing the public about what is going on in the school system if the information is factual and does not mislead the public as was the case in last weekend’s newspaper article.
There are numerous measures by which campuses and districts are judged. Some of those are based on a very small population of students; less than 10 percent of Moreno’s 803 students. It troubles me that the two secondary campuses in BISD have been judged by people who obviously did not do their research and get all the facts.
Publicly humiliating the teachers and staff of BISD is not the way to improve performance. The consequences that this article will have on the morale of BISD staff and students will be long lasting. The Chamber should be asking what they can do to help instead of hurting the students of BISD by their actions.
In order to make an informed decision, I would like the businesses of Beeville that do not support the Chamber’s position to let the citizens of Bee County know. As a citizen of Bee County, I will do as much of my shopping as possible at businesses that do not support the Chamber leadership in this attack. The rest of my shopping will be done in other counties.
Sincerely,
Jean Blankenship
