Jacob Scott Bardin, 17, of George West died at the scene of a one-car rollover on Saturday night (Aug. 29) at approximately 10:45 p.m. according to DPS officials.

Three other passengers were injured: Julian Zuniga, 17; Raynaldo "Ray" Casas, 21; and Gabriel Martinez Jr., 18, all of George West. Zuniga and Casas were taken to Spohn Memorial Hospital by ambulance and Martinez was airlifted by HALO-Flight to Spohn Memorial.

According to the Live Oak County Sheriff's complaint log, the accident occurred on Jones Road two miles west of FM 534 in Live Oak County. Bardin was driving a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder traveling north on FM 534 when he was clocked by Live Oak County Deputy Ken Baker driving 93 miles per hour. Baker attempted a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop and there was a pursuit, DPS officials said. The vehicle then turned off of FM 534 on to Jones Road westbound, according to the DPS report. Bardin allegedly accelerated over 100 mph on Jones Road; the road turned into a caliche road, DPS officials reported.

"The deputy lost sight of the vehicle due to the time of night and the road conditions and due to the fact that he had backed off the pursuit," read the DPS report. Baker continued down Jones Road and found the vehicle had crashed, the DPS report added. "When he found them, the vehicle had traveled off the road and had gone through a barbed wire fence and rolled, according to the report," the DPS spokesperson said.

The Swinney Switch Fire Department was contacted for the Jaws of Life and to help clear a landing zone for HALO-Flight, according to the LOC complaint log. Precinct 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Jim E. Lane was called to the scene at 11 p.m. to hold an inquest.

My husband and I are lifting up in prayer everyone who was involved in this tragedy including the community of George West. God's undeniable word tells us: Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the Father of all comfort; Who comforeth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. Corinthians 1: 3,4

I knew Jacob for a very short time but am glad that I got the opportunity to know him. Jacob always made me laugh and I will miss him. I saw him on Friday trying to get the football dinner tickets sold. My thoughts and prayers are with the Bardin family. I also send my deepest sympathies to his girlfriend. Jacob you will be sadly missed.....
