The members of the Boys and Girls Club kicked off Red Ribbon Week on Tuesday, Oct. 28 by signing a Dare To Be Drug Free poster. The kids pledged to be drug free.

Officers Dean Ochoa, Jeff Raymond and K-9 Bodie visited the club to stress to the kids the importance of keeping off drugs and staying off drugs. The officers also demonstrated how K-9 Bodie is trained to search for illegal drugs and how the drug dog helps the officers catch drug dealers and criminals.

After the presentation, the members held a pumpkin decorating/carving contest. The winners are Logan Moses, first place; Austin Moses, second; and Autumn Moses, third.

“A big thank you to H-E-B food store for donating the prizes,” Norma Cano said.

Also joining in the festivities was The Lost Cause Band, which played while the kids danced to dance off drugs.

“All in all, it is great to be drug free and at the Boys and Girls club of Refugio County, the positive place for kids,” Cano said.

Club hours are Monday through Thursday 3-7 p.m. and Friday 3-6 p.m.
