The Pettus Lady Eagle junior high girls fought off an invasion of Louise Hornets last Thursday night in volleyball with wins at the seventh- and eighth-grade levels.

The seventh-graders played the first game of their junior high career and walked away victorious. The Lady Eagles won 25-21, then 25-18.

“Serving was key for this victory,” said seventh-grade coach Tiffany Gleinsner.

The seventh-grade team includes Randi Arrisola, Victoria Ruiz, Ashlyn Schauer, Julie Hodge, Zoey Aguilar, Amy Ybanez, Autumn Rompf, Ester Constante, Cassi Rodriguez and Paige Gutierrez.

The eighth-grade team started their season with a big win by defeating the only team last year to defeat them.

The Lady Eagles had to work hard for the win and relied on each member of the team for serves, good passes and calm determination. It went three sets but the Pettus girls captured the first set by the score of 26-24 before dropping the second set in a close contest, 21-25.

The final went to the home team 25-19 for the victory.

The eighth-grade team is coached by Darcy Siddon. The Lady Eagles include Madi Garza, Destiny Carrillo, Tristian Moore, Felisha Torres, Cierra Buentello and Jessica Howard.
