In commemoration of Sept. 11, 2001, and as a way of saying thanks to those men and women who risk their lives to protect their communities, H-E-B employees will provide breakfast for Beeville firefighters on Friday, then wash fire engines, vacuum sleeping quarters and generally clean up the fire station.
“This Friday, Sept. 11, H-E-B will honor our nation’s firefighters for their dedication and selfless service with the fifth annual company-wide volunteer program, Helping Heroes,” a spokesperson announced. “More than 300 Gulf Coast Region H-E-B employees will visit 42 local fire stations honor local firemen with home-cooked meals and around-the-station chores.”
The annual breakfast/cleanup was called off last year because of Hurricane Ike.
“Volunteers will prepare a hot meal for the firefighters at each of the local and surrounding areas as well as paying tribute for their daily services,” the spokesperson said. “H-E-B exists because of the community around our stores and we try to give something back to the community whenever possible.”
Beeville Fire Chief Donald C. Morris said the meal and volunteer work are appreciated.
“It’s really appreciated by the fire department that they do that,” he said.
