George West Lady Horns make a come back against Goliad

On Tuesday, Aug. 25th, the Goliad Tigeretts came to George West for one exciting volleyball game. Goliad won the first two games 24-26 and 19-25. However, the Lady Horns came back to win the last three games with scores 25-21, 25-21, and 15-10. Jane Riser and Taylor McCumber led the aces scored with three each, and they were followed by Larissa Liska with two. Liska also had 11 assists and Krietsch 10. Leading off the digs was Krietsch with 11, Riser with four, and Shawna Talley with four. Freshman Marley Snider had led blocking with one solo and one assist, and Whitley James, Jane Riser, and K. Krietsch all had one solo block. Kayla Wallek had nine kills, while Liska, Snider, and Krietsch each contributed eight. The Lady Horns improved their season record to 8-9 with this victory.

On Tuesday, Sept. 1 the rivalry continues as the Lady Horns hosted the Lady Bulldogs. George West came out on top in three short games (25-16, 25-13, 25-18). Leading the team with kills was Jane Riser with 10 and Kayla Krietsch with eight. Shawna Talley and Riley Shannon contributed two kills each. The lady horns had 40 good digs for the night with K. Krietsch leading the team with 11. J. Riser and Maggie Ham had nine digs apiece. Larissa Liska and Kayla Wallek each helped by contributing some great sets. Overall the team improved serving to 91% and their season record to 9-9.

On Tuesday, Sept. 8, after spitting the first four sets (15-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20) against District 31-AA opponent Natalia, the Lady Horns roared back in the fifth set and won a deserving match 15-10. Kayla Krietsch led the team with an outstanding seven kills, and Jane Riser followed up with 5. Rylie Shannon and Maggie Ham had a combined 25 digs; these ladies also did an outstanding job. Senior Lady Horns Krietsch, Kayla Wallek, and J. Riser showed their expertise in the game by combining for 10 of the teams 21 aces. Lady Horns are now 10-11 for the season, but are 2-0 in district play.
