The opening two games of the Lady Trojans’ district schedule had the Beeville varsity facing the projected top two volleyball teams in the title race.

Rockport-Fulton was too much to handle in the opener a week ago and the Moody Lady Trojans were much the same on Friday night in Beeville.

The visiting Lady Trojans captured the best of five sets match in three straight games.

“We weren’t up to par physically. A few of the girls have been ill over the last few days and not up to strength. It’s tough to compete with a good team if we’re not at full strength,” said Lady Trojan head coach Larry Lollar.

The first set had the Moody Trojans hitting hard and serving well as they dominated set one for a 25-8 victory and a 1-0 lead in the match.

The Beeville girls got into the match in the second set and forced the visitors into a close contest. Moody did prevail at 25-20, but the Beeville girls showed they could play with the more experienced team of Lady Trojans on occasion.

The third set was all Moody as the early serving and hitting gave the visitors a big lead. The momentum was all Moody’s as the visitors raced off to an easy 25-9 win and a 3-0 match victory.

The win gives the Moody Lady Trojans a 14-5 overall mark and 2-1 record in District 30-4A play, losing only to Rockport-Fulton last week. The Beeville girls fall to 5-12 and 0-2 in district.

Krista Gonzales had seven assists on the night to lead the Beeville girls. Carissa Elizalde ended the match with six digs to lead the defense. Randi Maupin had two kills in the three sets along with one block.

The Beeville Lady Trojans got back on the court on Tuesday night when the Miller Lady Bucs made the trip to Marion B. Horton Gymnasium.

On Friday night, the Lady Trojans will be in Corpus Christi to play the Ray Lady Texans. The varsity match will be at 5:30 p.m. with the JV and freshmen playing at 6:30 p.m. in the two available gyms.
