The rain continued Friday night at Longhorn field except it was raining yellow flags, not water! George West was penalized nine times for 95 yards and Freer drew twelve penalties for 128 yards in a sloppily played contest by both teams to open district 31AA. The Longhorns kicked off to the Buckaroos to begin the game and on the first play from scrimmage Freer back Harley Eeds broke through the line and scampered 74 yards for the opening touchdown. The point after kick was unsuccessful and after only 15 second Freer led 6-0. The Big Blue Wrecking Crew defense was able to contain Freer’s offense and keep them out of the end zone the rest of the game. Defensively, the Longhorns were led by Dylan White (15 tackles, 1 sac, 1 caused fumble); Lucas Yokum ( 13 tackles, 1 interception); Clayton Whitley (11 tackles, 2 QB pressure); and Shannon Taylor (6 tackles, 2 sacs, 2 QB pressures). Enrique Nieto, Michael Fuentes, Joseph Moore, Zane Schorp, Aaron McCabe, Abel Perez, Seth Pipkin, Brett Epperson, Ty Jimmerson, Thaddeus Pierce, Ronnie Piaz, Andrew Solello, Riley Rocha, and Robert Rutledge all were involved in stopping the Buckaroos offensive attack. Bobby Torres had a pass interception as the clock ran out to end the game.

Offensively, the guys up front again blasted open holes in the Buckaroos defense that allowed Cayleb Holt, Albert Gamez, and Seth Pipkin to each gain over 100 yards rushing. The Longhorns amassed 457 yards rushing on 35 attempts. Holt opened the scoring with a one yard touchdown run. A Gamez to Whitley pass was successful on the two-point conversion attempt. Joseph Lopez scored on a seven yard run and Jimmerson kicked the extra point; the Longhorns led at the end of one quarter 15-6.

Cayleb Holt scored on a 45 yard touchdown run four minutes into the second quarter and Shannon Taylor caught the pass from Jimmerson for the two-point conversion. The Longhorns went to the locker room at the half leading 23-6.

GW took the second half kick-off and marched down the field on a six minute scoring drive culminated by Gamez’s three yard run. The extra point attempt failed and the score was 29-6. Fourth quarter scoring for the Longhorns began with a Taylor six yard run. The extra point was again unsuccessful. Holt scored next for the Longhorns on a beautiful forty yard punt return. The extra point conversion failed again. Holt closed the scoring out for the night with a 40 yard touchdown run and Jimmerson’s extra point kick was good and the Longhorns led 48 to 6.

Jimmerson had a great night kicking off for the Longhorns with the coverage team containing the Buckaroos returns. GW again had problems in one point conversion tries, this time with the center holder snaps. Penalties again were problematic causing several long runs to be called back. The Longhorns have a week off before resuming district action in Natalia on October 9th. District 31AA: Dilley did not play; Jourdanton 36 – Cotulla 18; Three Rivers 21 – Natalia 0; George West 48 – Freer 6. This week Dilley hosts Cotulla; Jourdanton plays in Three Rivers; and Natalia is at Freer.
