Oct. 4-10 is National 4-H Week, and Live Oak County is celebrating with activities all week. Local 4-H youth plan to connect with the community through several activities.
On Sunday, Oct. 4, members tied green ribbons on cars. Then on Monday, George West 4-H clubs raised the United States, Texas and 4-H Flag at the county courthouse. On Tuesday, the Three Rivers 4-H Clubs raised the United States, Texas and 4-H flags at the City Hall in Three Rivers.
On Wednesday, Oct. 7, 4-H’ers wrote letters to soldiers. On Thursday, 4-H’ers placed mats for the elderly. On Friday, they will prepare baked items to deliver to elderly citizens.
This Saturday (Oct. 10), the 4-H’ers plan to establish a garden at the courthouse. Following they will meet at city park for punch and cookies and then deliver place mats and food items to the elderly.
On Sunday (Oct. 10), they will begin a yearlong project called “Pennies for Change.” Funds will go to M.D. Anderson for cancer patients.
In the evening beginning at 6 p.m., the Three Rivers 4-H will host a cookout at Tips Park; they are inviting all Live Oak County 4-H members. Live Oak County has more than 338 4-H members and 40 enrolled adult volunteers.
The fundamental 4-H ideal of practical, “learn by doing” experiences encourage youth to experiment, innovate and think independently.
