Western Week kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, with the Miss Western Week Pageant.

Thirty-one beautiful and intelligent youngsters will battle for Western Week crowns. Fifteen young ladies have entered the princess contest, three have entered the senior princess contest, six are teen contestants and seven are vying for the Miss Western Week tiara.

Sponsored by the Beeville Rotary Club, the popular pageant will be held at the A.C. Jones High School auditorium.

“Western Week is Bee County’s largest and longest running festival that was started more than 35 years ago and has since become a Beeville tradition,” organizers say. “The weekend celebrations draw families and tourist from all areas of Texas. Western Week is a celebration of our rich Texas tradition which includes music, food, art and crafts, and entertainment.”

Western Week activities begin in earnest on Oct. 15 with an official “kickoff” at 5:30 p.m. at the Beeville community center, followed by the equally-popular and amusing high heel run to benefit Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Western Week Celebration Golf Tournament begins at 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at the municipal golf course. The Blazin’ Saddles Bee County Go Texas Cook Off check-in also starts at 9 a.m.

At 6 p.m. Friday, the 37th annual Western Week celebration opens at the Bee County Expo Center.

Admission is $3 per person. Admission for children under 2 years of age.

A DJ will provide musical entertainment. Exhibits include a petting zoo, pony rides, Texas longhorn exhibit, performances by the Concho Cowboy Gunfighters and reptile adventures.

The Silver Spur Mercantile will set up shop inside the auditorium and arts and crafts booths and exhibits will be located outside.

The food court will include sausage on a stick, hamburgers, hot dogs, gorditas, pizza, turkey legs, funnel cakes, cotton candy, etc.

Jason Marbach will perform onstage at 8 p.m. in the pavilion.

A five kilometer fun run/two-mile walk begins at 8:15 a.m. in downtown Beeville.

The 72nd annual Bee County Chamber of Commerce Parade will wind its way down Washington Street in downtown Beeville at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.

Festival grounds at the Bee County Expo Center reopen at noon. The Pride of Texas Carnival opens at the same time.

Activities and exhibits featured Saturday include Mr. G magic show and a bicycle motocross freestyle stunt show.

The Blazin’ Saddles Barbecue Cook-off begins at noon. Proceeds benefit the Bee County Area Go-Texan Scholarship Fund.

Live music will be performed between noon and 8:30 p.m. on the pavilion stage by Dirty Music, Riptide and Tumble Dry Low. A DJ will provide musical entertainment between 8:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, the Lester Meier Open-Pro Rodeo begins in the rodeo arena.

Perfect Stranger and the Scott Wiggins Band will perform dance music in the auditorium starting at 9 p.m. Admission is $8 pre-sale and $10 at the door.

Festival grounds reopen at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Admission is free all day. Also at 11 a.m. on the pavilion stage, Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville and AngelCare Ambulance Service will sponsor a child safety fair. Miss Western Week contestants will perform on stage.

The Pride of Texas Carnival opens at 11 a.m, as well.

Live music will be performed between noon and 5:30 p.m. Indomable is one of the featured bands.

The Lester Meier Open-Pro-Rodeo begins at 2 p.m. in the rodeo arena.

Fair grounds close at 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
