Eleven constitutional amendments are being considered in the Nov. Constitutional Amendment Election. Early voting begins Monday. Oct. 19, through Friday, Oct. 30, at the courthouse. An early ballot can be cast from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Sample ballots are available upon request from the county clerk’s office. An analysis of proposed constitutional amendments can be found on the Secretaiy of State’s Website. www.sos.state.tx.us, under VOTE - Elections & Voter Information. The last day to request a ballot by mail is Oct. 27. A ballot by mail application may be requested from the county clerk’s office. Eligible applicants are those persons who are 65 and older, disabled or will be out of the county during early voting and on election day.
Generally, the state constitutional amendment election draws a low voter turnout. Due to the costs of conducting elections, the 14 polling places have been consolidated into five locations. The voters in Voting Precinct #5 (Oakville), 6 (Ray Point), 9 (East Three Rivers), 10 (West Three Rivers), & 11 (Simmons) will vote at the Three Rivers City Hall. Voters in Precinct # 3 (East George West), 4 (West George West), 12 (Anna Rose), and 14 (Southwest George West) will vote at the new Live Oak County Criminal Justice Center in George West. Lagarto, Precinct #2 will vote at the Fellowship Center in Lagarto. Argenta, Pct #1 and #13 Swinney Switch voters will cast their votes at the Swinney Switch Fire Station. The voters in Nell, Pct. #7 and Whitsett, Pct. 8 will vote at the Whitsett Baptist Church.
