City Council members could appoint a new city manager when they meet Tuesday.
The final item on this week’s agenda calls for an executive session to discuss personnel.
Although the agenda item is not specific, Tom Ginter, public works director for the City of Port Aransas, told the Bee-Picayune Monday that Interim City Manager Joe B. Montez has contacted him and made him an offer.
“I think it looks good,” Ginter said.
Ginter apparently was the council’s second choice for the position.
Montez contacted former Beeville resident and City Council member John Longoria previously, but Longoria turned down the offer.
“While I was honored to be considered, I am disappointed that our expectations about compensation were not compatible, even though I answered your questions about it directly and heard no objection,” Longoria said in a letter to the City Council.
“Please feel free to use some of the suggestions I provided in my work plan to further the city’s financial operational position if you find it appropriate,” Longoria continued.
Ginter has a master’s in public administration from the University of Oklahoma and has worked with Main Street Programs.
He grew up in a small town in Illinois and received his bachelor’s degree in that state.
Ginter has extensive experience as both a city manager and assistant city manager.
He has been the interim director of public works in Port Aransas since April.
