The Cougars played well but dropped both games for a short tourney stint. Friday’s contest had the Cougars facing the host Lamar State Seahawks.
It was a fast-paced tilt with both teams scoring early and often. The Seahawks prevailed, 112-93.
The Cougars were led by point guard Alex Horne, who stepped up to record 36 points on the night to go along with 12 assists.
The Cougars then took the floor on Saturday against a good club team out of Dallas, the Dallas Diesel.
CBC rallied to a 14-point second half lead over the Diesel, but their experience and size allowed the the Diesel to forge a late comeback to tie the game at the end of regulation.
The Cougars went cold in the overtime as the Diesel pulled away for an 11-point win, 93-82.
“We played all right over the weekend and we really should have won against the Diesel,” said CBC head coach Bucky Hartman.
CBC got balanced scoring in this contest with Horne hitting for 18 points with seven assists. Julian Stallworth recorded 16 points in the loss. Steven Garcia had 12 points and Chris Sutton also was in double figures with 10.
The Cougars played San Jacinto on Tuesday night on the road. Saturday’s game with Temple has been cancelled but the Cougars will be back on their home court on Monday night at 7 p.m. when they host Victoria College.
