Lady Trojan duo, Roberson and Moore, capture gold at Kingsville

The Trojan tennis sub-varsity participated in the annual Kingsville Junior Varsity-Freshman Tennis Invitational on Friday and four freshman members of the Trojan team came home with gold and silver.

It would be Trojans vs. Trojans in the girls’ doubles final. Beeville’s Lindsey Roberson and Cori Moore teamed up to win the gold medal. Their teammates Cori Sparks and Sydney Wesson brought home the silver.

Both pairs of Lady Trojans went undefeated into the finals with the Roberson/Moore tandem defeating Corpus Christi Ray in the semis and Sparks/Wesson defeating Tuluso-Midway. Roberson and Moore handed Sparks and Wesson their only loss in the tournament, defeating them 8-6 in the finals.

The junior varsity team of Marcos Ulloa and Brandon Lucio took sixth place in boys’ doubles, losing a close consolation championship match against John Paul Academy, 8-6.

Deidre Acosta and Leslie Alaniz were 2-0 in the tournament before falling to T-M in the semi-finals, 8-6.

Other Trojans participating in the Kingsville tournament were doubles teammates Austin Lockridge and Aaron Gonzales, Ora Bruns and Jazzrey Gomez, Roberto Reyna and Edward Sifuentes.

Playing singles were Bill Rivas (1-1), Jesse Barrera (1-1) Courtney Perez, Marisella Ibarra, Megan Burris, Darrell Jones (1-2), Colton Wren, Emily Burris and Amber Puebla.

The junior varsity Trojans will participate in the Rockport tournament on Thursday.
