Members of the A.C. Jones High School class of 1959 gathered for their 50th reunion Oct. 23 and 24. There were approximately 130 members of that class and more than 60 attended the events.

Class members came from all over the Lone Star State as well as from Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, Nevada and Ohio.

The reunion committee, headed by Nellie Bea (Park) Boenig, had worked hard to make it an enjoyable time. Many of the class members met Friday evening at the Holiday Inn Express. Some of them went to the homecoming football game and helped cheer the Trojans to victory.

About 25 of the female classmates, pleasantly surprised by one token male classmate, Jon Olson of Columbus, Ohio, met Saturday noon at The Cistern while some of the men played golf. Oh, and, yes, many of the classmates toured the newly remodeled high school prior to the luncheon.

On Saturday evening, the class met for an excellent dinner at the Country Club. Class President Josephine (Welder) Miller of Sinton led a rousing program for those in attendance. Enjoyable camaraderie flowed throughout the evening. It was so much fun reminiscing and finding out about people’s lives today. For some reason there was a lot of talk about health issues. Many classmates were sorely missed – simply could not make the reunion.

Perhaps the highlight of the Saturday evening event was the brief memorial service, led by Jim Bertram, for the 23 classmates that we know of who have died. Jim also had ready for us a wonderful keepsake; a booklet filled with entries provided by the 1959 class members and a list of known addresses/phone numbers.

It was proposed that this might be our last class reunion, but there was much clamoring for another because “some of us are getting old.” What a preposterous thought.
