The Auxiliary of Swinney Switch Inc. will hold an open house of the Jarrett School on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 2 - 5 p.m. The school is located on FM 534 at County Road 3036.
We invite members of the community to stop by and inspect the old school. The members of the auxiliary will be available to explain the plans to turn the Jarrett School building into a community center.
So far a survey was made. A second step of clearing the land which led to several interesting discoveries: a well, a cistern, a horse trough and an out house. These treasures will be repaired and will remain part of the school area.
The Auxiliary has had some repair estimates about the cost of the repairs. The roof will be the first area of repair now that basic cleanup has been completed. The cost of repair with matching tin is estimated to be $4,000. The next repair will be to the two large doors, followed by the windows.
The Auxiliary has a raffle underway to begin raising the monies for the restoration of the Jarrett School house and grounds. The drawing will be held at the open house on Nov. 21. Grandchildren of Jarrett Schools students will draw for the winning prizes which include: 3 mini gold coins, guided wild hog hunt, hand crocheted U.S. Flag 40 by 70,1901 Morgan silver dollar, Egyptian table cloth and a beautiful hand made lap robe.
