The junior varsity Lady Trojan basketball team edged the home-standing Ingleside Mustangs on Tuesday night, 29-26.

The bulk of the scoring came from two Lady Trojans. Power forward J.J. Hernandez hit it big with 18 points and Courtney Perez followed with nine points on the night. Solidad Garcia had two points to complete the JV scoring.

Both Hernandez and Perez were able to contribute both offensively and defensively for the Lady Trojans, according to the coaches.

“They are both strong leaders who possess the necessary skills to succeed,” said JV coach Ophelia De Los Santos.

The Lady Trojans face a busy schedule leading up to the Thanksgiving break next week. Three home games in five days are on tap starting with last night’s game with George West.

On Monday night the Victoria Memorial Lady Vipers will be in town and then on Tuesday evening the Sinton Lady Pirates invade Beeville to challenge the Lady Trojans.

“Overall, the (JV) team was able to play great defense in order to prevail over the Lady Mustangs. There are a few areas in which we need to fine-tune a bit, but over time and with added experience we shall be able to close that gap,” said De Los Santos.
