Live Oak County Grand Jury indicts seven on varied charges: possession of cocaine, DWI, evading arrest

Gregory Scott Frazier, 49, of Corpus Christi was indicted for possession of a controlled substance, PG 1-cocaine (1g-4g). On July 23 at 6:44 p.m., Frazier was stopped by DPS Trooper Jason Galvan. It was determined Frazier was in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine. Frazier was subsequently arrested. He was magistrated by Justice of the Peace Jim Lane. Lane set bond at $5,000. Upon indictment District Court Judge Michael Welborn continued Frazier on the same bond.

Jorge Ortiz-Mendez, 28, of Houston was indicted on two counts. Count one was for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and count two was for possession of a controlled substance, PG 1-cocaine (<1g). On Jan. 30 at 2:57 a.m., Ortiz-Mendez was stopped by DPS Trooper Cody Wallace. Allegedly Ortiz-Mendez was operating a vehicle he was not authorized to use. It was further determined Ortiz-Mendez was in possession of a substance believed to be cocaine. He was subsequently arrested and transported to the Live Oak County jail. He was magistrated by Justice of the Peace Elizabeth Ellis. She set bonds at $15,000 for each charge. Ortiz-Mendez posted both bonds on Feb. 18 and was released. Upon indictment Welborn continued Ortiz-Mendez on the same bonds.

Valerie Ann Chavez, 26, of San Antonio was indicted for evading arrest – using a vehicle. On Aug. 21, 2008, at approximately 5:19 p.m., DPS Trooper Clarence Lewinski stopped Chavez. She was arrested and booked on the same day at approximately 7:37 p.m. Chavez was magistrated by Lane who set bond at $5,000. She posted bond the next day and was released. Upon indictment Welborn continued Chavez on the same bond,

Juan Oscar Cruz, 32, of San Juan was indicted for driving while intoxicated-enhanced. On Aug. 2 at 3:12 a.m., Cruz was stopped by Trooper Galvan. Cruz was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DWI. During the booking process, it was determined this was his third or more time to be charged with the offense of DWI and his charges were enhanced. Cruz was magistrated by Lane, who set bond at $5,000. He posted bond and was released at 10:40 o’clock the same morning. Upon indictment Welborn continued Cruz on the same bond.

Alfred Kelly Goforth, 61, of Dilley was indicted for driving while intoxicated-enhanced. On Aug. 30 at 11:30 a.m., Goforth was arrested by DPS Trooper Richard Russell for suspicion of DWI. During the booking process, it was determined this was Goforth’s third or more time to be charged with the offense of DWI and his charges were enhanced. He was magistrated by Ellis that same day. She set bond a $6,000. He posted bond and was out by 2:10 p.m. Upon indictment Welborn continued Goforth on the same bond.

Amanda R. Gonzalez, 24, of McAllen was indicted on two counts of driving while intoxicated with a passenger under the age of 15. Gonzalez was stopped by DPS Trooper Carlos Martinez on June 19 at 11:38 p.m. on suspicion of DWI with two children under the age of 15. The next morning Gonzalez was magistrated by Lane. He set bond at $4,000, which she subsequently posted. Upon indictment Welborn continued Gonzalez on the same bond.
