The book is designed to be a short, readable, general history of Goliad, which will appeal to local residents and to visitors wanting more information about the community.
Although Goliad is best known for the 1836 Goliad Massacre during the Texas Revolution and the cry “Remember Goliad,” which was a major rallying cry at the Battle of San Jacinto, there is much more to the story of the town.
Images of America: Goliad covers the town’s beginnings as a Spanish colony, a Mexican province, the Texas Revolution and the tumultuous years after the Revolution and through the Civil War and Reconstruction. A main focus of the volume, however, will be on the growth of Goliad after the 1880s when the arrival of the railroad led to the establishment of the town as we still know it.
All profits from the book will go to the Goliad County Historical Commission to support its mission of preserving and interpreting Goliad’s heritage.
