“The players have been working hard in practice and it shows at times in the game, but we need to have more consistency with our play in games,” said Trojan head coach Abel Barrera.
“I feel confident that we will gel and start to play at a more competitive level with each game. We have played some tough teams and this will help us prepare for district.”
The Trojans opened against 5A South San and the Bobcats played tough defensively and held the Trojans to just 27 points over the four quarters. South San won easily, 58-27.
The Lockhart Lions were the Trojans’ next opponent. The Lions held off the Trojans by 10 points, 55-45.
“It was nice to have the younger players get more playing time and gain some varsity experience,” said Barrera.
The Trojans then met Bee County neighbor Skidmore-Tynan. The Beeville boys got their only win of the tournament over the Bobcats, 44-36, as the Trojan team depth was a factor in the fast-paced game.
The Trojans finally got a reprieve from battling the felines and went up against the Kingsville Brahmas,
The Brahmas refused to be corralled and the Kingsville boys captured a convincing 49-33 win.
“Conner Shears has had some impressive games with his presence in the paint, crashing the boards and playing defense. John Daniel Camacho was able to handle the ball more at the guard position and helped lead the offensive attack in the tournament,” Barrera said.
The Trojans met the Tuloso-Midway Warriors on Tuesday night at T-M. The Beeville boys will travel to West Oso on Friday night to challenge the Runnin’ Bears.
