The Bee County Historical Society invites eveyone to attend a Christmas open house at the historic McClanahan House at 204 E. Corpus Christi St. in Beeville on Saturday (today) at 5 p.m.

The McClanahan House is the oldest historic business building still standing in Beeville. Built in 1867 by G.W. McClanahan, it has served as a mercantile, lodging house, post office, school building, beauty shop, dance studio and private residence.

Now under the ownership and care of the BCHS, the building houses many early artifacts relating to the creation of Bee County, and the citizens. The house has undergone much repair and maintenance work in the last couple of years, and is once again ready to take its place as the primary public repository of all things historical, pertinent to Bee County.

As caretakers of the house, the BCHS is responsible for raising funds to maintain the building and its contents. For the last three years, a “Holiday Extravaganza” has been held as a fundraiser.

Due to the economy, it was decided this year not to hold the gala. Instead a drawing will be held Saturday at the McClanahan House during the open house festivities.

Items include: Golden Boy .22 rifle, deer shoulder mount, 18K ladies sterling silver honey citrine ring by Lorenzo, one-day dove hunt, deer corn, deer processing, Chili’s gift certificate, oil change, deer feeder, knife and gun case, Ariat gift certificate, ice cooler and kitchen knife set and western style cross.

Refreshments will be served.
