On Nov. 23rd the Garden Club met for our monthly meeting with guest speakers, Dr. Rick Hernandez and Carmen Jimenez from the South Texas Poison Center in San Antonio.

When you first think about a poison control topic you might say “Oh that’s going to be boring or do I really want to hear this?”

Well, to my surprise the presentation was very interesting and very informative. I recommend any organization, school or business to hear this. Dr. Hernandez covered a lot of important information in the hour that he made his presentation. He provided us with brochures on poisonous plants, poisonous bites and stings, tips on poison prevention, and literature on seasonal tips. He touched on each one of these subjects.

The most important thing Garden Club members would like to share with the community is the 800 number that was provided to us. Every household or person should write this number down: 1-800-222-1222, South Texas Poison Prevention. This number could save a life.

Garden Club extends an invitation for any individual to join us. We are not just about plants. We are a club that offers opportunities to educate ourselves with presentations like this.
