December was a pretty good month for the young Pettus Lady Eagle junior high basketball teams, picking up three wins over Yorktown.

On Dec. 7, the Lady Eagle A team cruised to a 41-21 victory over the Yorktown girls.

Pettus was led in scoring by Destiny Carrillo with 17 points. Madi Garza hit for 14 in the win. Tristian Moore followed with five tallies and Felisha Torres had three. Cierra Buentello closed out the Pettus scoring with two.

The B squad also earned a win over Yorktown with the final score of 16-3. Defense was a key and the scoring all came from two players. Zoe Aguilar and Randi Arrisola split the offensive production with eight points each.

On Dec. 14, the JH Lady Eagles were up against Yorktown again.

The contest was a little closer but the result for the A team was the same, another big win.

The final score of the Dec. 14 tilt was 36-28 in favor of the Lady Eagles.

Carrillo again led the squad with 14 points. Garza followed with nine and Buentello sank seven points.

Moore had four markers and Jessica Howard added two.

“The team continues to improve and is playing competitively and striving to be better ball players,” said JH girls basketball coach Erica Garza.
