Hunter Tomlin of Pettus High School has been nominated as an Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year.

As a result of this achievement, Tomlin is among a select group of players who are eligible to be selected as a national Red Zone Player of the Year and be honored in a full-page feature in a national print publication.

Tomlin led the Pettus Eagles in touchdowns scored with 10 and in receiving yards with 901 yards on the year. Tomlin also averaged a team-high 127 all-purpose yards and led the team defensively in several categories.

“Hunter has developed exponentially over the last few years; he has grown and gotten stronger and faster. He is only a sophomore still, so we are obviously very excited to see what he will be able do in his junior and senior years,” said head coach Steve Marbach.

For the ninth straight year, Old Spice is recognizing high school football players who go above and beyond the call of duty, particularly in the Red Zone. The program honors athletes who are able to elevate their play and step up when the heat is really on. These athletes embody leadership, performance and desire, and serve as examples to their teammates on and off the field.

High school coaches across the country are naming one player from their team as their Player of the Year. Each team’s Player of the Year will receive a certificate to acknowledge his accomplishment.

He is also eligible to be named one of 50 national Players of the Year. The top 50 players nationwide will be named Red Zone Players of the Year and will receive a plaque and other awards.

“Hunter has a burning desire to be the best he can be, so he is constantly working out, both at school and at his house. He hopes to play college football in a few years, and with his drive and work ethic, I have am sure that he can accomplish that goal,” Marbach said.

The Red Zone Player of the Year program is nationally sponsored by Procter & Gamble, the makers of Old Spice Red Zone Deodorant. The program is created and managed by 360 Youth, LLC, an Alloy company.
