The Trojan varsity soccer team was in San Antonio on Tuesday night for a rematch with Alamo Heights. The Mules showed no mercy on the Trojans a little over a week ago in tournament play, defeating the Beeville boys 6-0.

On Tuesday night the Mules still won, 2-0, but it wasn’t anywhere near as easy this time.

“We made huge improvements in our game last night. Although we lost the match 2-0, we made some adjustments that tightened up our defense and held the Mules to only two very difficult goals. Our defense limited them to their overall shots at the goal to only four for the whole game,” said Trojan varsity coach Gerald Bermea.

“That shocked them, as they defeated us by a landslide just 11 days before.”

The Trojans will travel to Alice on Tuesday night to meet the Coyotes. The JV contest is set for 5 p.m. with the varsity match-up kicking off about 7 p.m.

District 57-4A play begins on Feb. 5 when the Trojans take on the Southside Cardinals in San Antonio.

“We did well against one of the best teams in San Antonio (Alamo Heights) and are excited about our chances this year as district games get closer.”
