The Beeville and Goliad Garden Clubs plowed new ground together as they met for a joint meeting last Tuesday at the First National Bank.

Although everyone enjoyed meeting each other, the highlight was guest speaker Malcolm Beck. He is the renowned author of such books as “The Secret of Compost.”

Beck regaled the group with a slide show and explained how to take care of soil and why some bugs are good for our gardens. A small tidbit: those June bugs are great for compost. This was just one of the many informative “bug” issues discussed.

The list of topics ranged from A to Z concerning everyday gardens, farms and ranches. All in all, it was a great trip through the garden path as the meeting ended with a plentiful array of delicious edibles.
