Two men accused of attacking a 21-year-old man last month ended up in jail facing assault charges.

Sgt. Jason Alvarez of the Beeville Police Department said he was sent to the 1100 block of South St. Mary’s Street at 5:22 p.m. on Jan. 25 after the dispatcher at police headquarters was called about the assault.

Alvarez met with the victim who said 19-year-old Jacob Michael Montanez and 40-year-old Michael Anthony Montanez had attacked him with dangerous weapons, including brass knuckles.

The victim said he was hit several times and that one of the men shattered a window in his truck.

The victim said the damage to his glass would cost him $200.

After the victim named his assailants, they were placed under arrest by Patrolman Matt Miller and taken to the Bee County Jail.

The older suspect, Michael Montanez, was arrested on suspicion of assault, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by $4,000 fine and a year in jail if he is convicted.

Jacob Michael Montanez was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault, a second degree felony, and criminal mischief, a Class B misdemeanor.

If convicted of the felony, the younger suspect could face up to 20 years in prison and a fine of $10,000. If found guilty of the misdemeanor, Montanez could be fined $2,000 and sentenced to 180 days in jail.

Justice of the Peace Joe Lyvers set a $2,000 bond on the younger suspect on the aggravated assault charge and a $500 bond on the criminal mischief charge.

The judge set Michael Montanez’s bond at $500 on the assault charge.

Both men were released after making bond on Jan. 26.
