The Beeville ladies continued their shutout defensive performances with Monica Garza in goal on Tuesday night. All 11 wins have been shutouts.
The Lady Trojans’ offensive dominance and defensive prowess made it easy for the Beeville keeper on Tuesday as she touched the ball just once the entire game.
“Our ladies played well under the rainy conditions. I thought our passing game could have been a little crisper,” said Lady Trojan head coach Johnny Gonzales.
“It was good to see us pick up another shutout and to see six different players score.”
It was 5-0 after the first 40 minutes. Heather McKinney scored the first goal with 21:42 left in the first half, assisted by Katelynn Willeford.
Morgan McKinney made it 2-0 with a pass from Jade Treviño in front of the goal. Willeford got one of her own at the 14:16 mark as she hit one from the left side of the goal into the far corner of the net for a 3-0 lead.
Natalie Elder scored the final two goals of the half with less than a minute left. The first came on a nice cross from Heather McKinney and then Elder scored on a header, again off a Heather McKinney assist for a 5-0 advantage at the half.
Second half scores came from Mary Larakers, Carissa Elizalde, Heather McKinney (her second of the night) and Elder (her third).
Defensively, defenders Taylor Lawson, Sydney Wesson, Elizalde and Claire McKinney along with midfielders Amanda Cagle, Larakers and Tori Munoz made life real easy for the Beeville keeper. Nothing got by them and they kept the ball in the Lady Coyotes’ end of the field all night.
“Our biggest challenge is trying to play at a faster pace, and taking pride with our passes and shooting at an appropriate time,” said Gonzales.
“Our Lady Trojans can play much better and hopefully, they can show it during their district run which starts Friday.”
The Lady Trojans opened District 57-4A play on Friday with a home contest with the Southside Lady Cardinals.
On Tuesday night the Beeville girls will be in Pleasanton to take on the Eaglettes.
The Lady Trojans are ranked eighth in Region IV soccer and hope to improve that lofty position as the season progresses.
“These ladies are good and we’re looking for a lot of support from our hometown crowds throughout the rest of the season,” said coach Gonzales.
“Come out and support these young ladies.”
