The Live Oak County Fair Parade will be held in George West on Friday, March 26, and will be sponsored by George West Chamber of Commerce and the City of George West.

Entries will be assigned a number in the parade line-up in the order they are received. Organizations are encouraged to send in their entry forms as soon as possible.

All horses, except for the county judge and sheriff, will be at the end of the parade.

For safety reasons, the City of George West and Chamber of Commerce are requesting that no candy or other items be thrown from the parade entries. If you desire to distribute such, each entry is encouraged to provide someone to walk the parade route, close to the spectators, to hand out these items.

Trophies will be awarded to the best walking unit and best horse unit and rosettes will go to the three best commercial, non-commercial and decorated car entries.

Entry forms are available at the Chamber office and City Hall, as well as on www.georgewest.org. Entries may be mailed or emailed to the George West Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 359, George West, Texas 78022, (361)449-2033, email-gwcofc@georgewest.org or dropped off at our office located in the Buck West House, M-F 9-noon, 1-3.

Maybe for the safety of parade goers the city should also illiminate horse droppings and scary clowns?

"For safety reasons, the City of George West and Chamber of Commerce are requesting that no candy or other items be thrown from the parade entries."

For years growing up as a youngster in George West I was mortified at the thought of being fatally wounded by a flying piece of candy. I am glad to see that the "softening" of America has finally reached the once proud, conservative and traditional hamlet that was George West. I only wish that this piece of responsible local legislation had made it into our society before I and my fellow young parade goers had to suffer through the traumatic experience of living with the fact that we were about to be assaulted with...I can hardly say it...C.A.N.D.Y.

Congratulations to the members of the George West city council and C of C. I am sure that you will make the annual fair parade much less memorable for most of the youngsters of Live Oak County. You are a terrific example of modern America. Glad to see the hope and change has made it down there!
