The Longhorns ended the season on a high note Friday night (Feb. 12) with a season ending win over the Freer Buckaroos.

The Longhorns had to come from behind for the 65-54 victory. Albert Gamez led all scorers with 20 points.

Freshman Derek Cantu capped off an outstanding first varsity season with 16 points. Joseph Lopez had 12 points and Andrew Sotelo came back for the his final game with 10 points respectively. Ty Jimerson chipped in 4 points and Freshman Jesse Haros put in 3. It was a very satisfying ending to a frustrating year.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, Feb. 9 the Longhorns beat rival Bulldogs for the second time, 58-43.

Joseph Lopez and Colton Guerrero lead the ‘Horns with 15 points each, followed by Albert Gamez with 11. Derek Cantu chipped in 7 and Jesse Haros and Riley Rocha each contributed 4. Ty Jimerson had 2 points to round out the scoring.

It was a much needed win and a very satisfying win after so many close games.

I am tremendously proud of these guys for the way they kept fighting. We faced a lot of adversity this season, but these guys played hard everynight.

Thanks to the graduating seniors, Joseph Lopez, Albert Gamez, Riley Rocha, and Andrew Sotelo for great leadership and guidance. Our younger guys got a lot of experience that will surely help us in years to come, but there is a foundation that we can build on. I really believe the future is bright for Longhorn Basketball.
