The McCollum Cowboys and Cowgirls were in town on Tuesday night and both JV soccer teams met up with their Beeville counterparts for matches on the football practice fields.

The Lady Trojans emerged with a 3-1 win and the Trojans and Cowboys fought to a 0-0 tie.

Celeste Contreras continued her scoring string with the first goal of the night against the Cowgirls in the first half, and the Lady Trojans took a 1-0 lead into the half.

Second half scores by Alexis Pelitire and Samantha Luna put the young Lady Trojans in front comfortably. The visitors did manage one second half goal to make the final 3-1.

“We played pretty well and Amber Puebla did a really good job in goal for us,” said JV coach Amber Orchard.

The Trojans and Cowboys each had numerous opportunities to light up a scoreboard but the keepers on both teams played well and stopped anything close.

JV coach Nick Whatley was impressed by the play of keeper Marcos Ulloa.

“Marcos was our most valuable player tonight. He played really well the entire game,” Whatley said.

The two teams will take on Southside next Tuesday. The girls will be in San Antonio while the boys will remain in Beeville.
