Detective Chris Bernal said two men were stabbed and a 31-year-old woman, identified as Josie Garcia, was in jail Monday after an argument between the men involving knives.
Bernal said Patrolman Mark Cruz and Sgt. Victor Gonzales were the first two officers called to a home in the 300 block of East Sarah Street at about 10:19 p.m. Sunday.
At the scene they found the first victim, the 44-year-old, bleeding from numerous stab wounds to his left side. At a home across the street they found another victim, a 55-year-old, with a puncture wound in the back.
Both victims were rushed to Christus Spohn Hospital Beeville and Ramirez was later flown by helicopter to Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio. Bernal said the victim had six or eight stab wounds, one of which had punctured his left lung.
The detective said the victim was initially reported to be in “very serious” condition but that was upgraded to stable condition by Monday morning.
The victim with the knife wound in the back was treated and released.
Other officers began arriving at the scene later, including Field Training Officer Art Gamez and Patrolmen Pat Mitchell and Ryan Treviño.
They called Bernal, Detective Lt. Rene Guerrero and Detective Roland Rodriguez.
Investigators learned the both victims had been arguing about one of two women who were at the Sarah Street address when the fight began. Witnesses said the 55-year-old man began stabbing the younger man and the 31-year-old woman then grabbed a knife and stabbed the older man in the back to get him to stop the attack.
The older man did stop the attack after he was stabbed and both women then helped him get across the street to a relative’s house where police and emergency medical service personnel were called to the scene.
Bernal said officers learned that Garcia allegedly had thrown both knives out of the house.
She was taken to the Bee County Jail where she was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony, and tampering with evidence, a third degree felony.
Second degree felony convictions are punishable by a 20-year prison term and a third degree felony conviction could result in a 10-year prison sentence. Each offense also carries a possible $10,000 fine.
Garcia was still in custody Monday morning at the Bee County Jail. Her bonds were set at $5,000 on each offense.
