According to a report filed by Highway Patrol Trooper Jazmin Garcia of George West, Mariano Virata and Reagan Hardy were pronounced dead at the scene just before midnight.
Both were 16 years old.
One passenger in the vehicle, 16-year-old Bethany Bernal, was in critical condition at Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi with head injuries.
The driver, 16-year-old Christian Morón, and another passenger, 15-year-old Brandon Jimenez were in good condition with scrapes and bruises at University Hospital in San Antonio.
According to the trooper, the teens were southbound in the center of the road on Farm-to-Market Road 888 in a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire at about 11:08 p.m. when a northbound car approached.
Witnesses said the Pontiac, driven by Morón, swerved into the southbound lane, lost control, rolled and struck a utility pole and a property fence, according to the report filed by the trooper. The vehicle came to rest upside down.
According to the report, Hardy was the only person in the car not wearing a seat belt.
Because of the deaths, the softball tournament is canceled, as is the track meet.
The Key Club barbecue has been postponed until next Sunday.

I'm sorry for the loss of the elderly gentleman in front of the auto parts store just as I'm sorry for all lives affected by this horrible incident.
There was, to my knowledge, no alcohol involved. I've talked to 1 of the survivors and this is something that all of them are going to have to deal with for the rest of their lives. There is never a time for hate, but right now is a time to pray for healing!!!!
