The 119th Annual Convention of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas will take place in Houston, May 12-15. Many of the Daughters of the local Clara Driscoll Chapter will be present, along with daughters from all over the State.

The Clara Driscoll Chapter hosted Dr. Robert Wouster of Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi, and his outstanding history student, Allie Kelley, during the Feb. 13 meeting at Driscoll Children’s Hospital auditorium.

Wouster spoke about the Texas Brigade and the roll they played during the Civil War.

Among the other highlights, further plans for for future tours were discussed. On March 2, Texas Independence Day was observed at the Continental House. The Daughters and the Nueces County Historical Commission co-hosted “A Toast to Texas” at the afternoon social.

Goliad Days will be observed by some of the Daughters on March 27 when the Battle of Goliad will be re-inacted at Presidio La Bahia. Many Texas heros lost their lives during this histories battle.

“A Candlelight Walk” will also take place that evening on the mission grounds.

“This activity has been said to be very meaning and realistic,” said Jo Zell B. Horne, DRT officer.

Refreshments were provided by the hostess, chairman La Nell Wright of Refugio and her committee composed of Irene Heslep, Allyne Johnson, La Fern Puls and Joyce Berkebile, all of Corpus Christi.
