Edith Collins submitted the following candidacy statement this week:

I, Edith Collins, am a candidate for Refugio Independent School District Board of Trustees Single Member District 5.

I have lived in this voting district for 28 years. I am running for the children of our school district and their education.

I have been married to Chuck Collins for 36 years and we have three children, Cody, DeeAnn and Becky. All of my children graduated with honors from Refugio High School, and each were successful student athletes.

It is my purpose in running for this position, to insure that this tradition for excellence is passed on for generations to come.

I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Lamar University. I am active on several boards that are focused on children’s education and development.

I have been on the Bee Community Action Board (Head Start) for 12 years, a charter member and director of the Refugio Boys and Girls Club and an active leader in the 4-H program for many years.

I am an active member of Blanconia Baptist Church and am currently chairman of the building committee.

For the past 26 years, I have been the director of Refugio County Elderly Services. This position has required that I work with budgets, make management decisions and supervise employees.

My vast work and volunteer experience is one of the strongest assets that I will bring to the Refugio Independent School District, together with my commitment to strive for a better educational system for all children on our district.

Refugio’s children will be the leaders of tomorrow. I want to give them each the tools they will need to be successful members of society.

I urge all the voters of RISD#5 to invest in our future by voting for me for the Board of Trustees of Refugio Independent School District #5.
