S-T trailed 4-1 after the first but put together three runs in each of the next two innings to pull in front for good. Lady Cat hurler Aaliyah East settled down after a tough first inning in which the first five Bloomington batters reached.
The visitors scored a single run off East in the third, but that was all East would allow. The S-T girls finished things off with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the final an 11-5 victory.
Gabbie Garibay went 2-3 with three runs and three RBI’s. Tabatha Crow contributed one hit in two official trips to the plate with two runs, one RBI and reached on two walks. Breana Hinds collected one base hit and a couple of RBI’s. Kristen Gonzales also hit safely and knocked in a run as did Lexi Lopez and East.
“I was not very happy with the way we set the tone for the game. We have the toughest part of our district schedule remaining with 3-0 Refugio and 2-1 Odem,” head coach Gary Epps said.
“We have to play a more complete game offensively and defensively than we played against Bloomington to give us the best possible chance for success. I know our kids are very capable.”
The Lady Cats were in Refugio on Thursday night and will host Odem on Tuesday evening.
