First up were the JV Lady Eagles who thoroughly trampled Kenedy to the tune of 52-13. Key scorers in the match-up were sophomore Shanon Mendez with 27 points on the evening, Hailee Schauer, who tallied eight, and Heather Pena, who scored six points. They say dynamite comes in small packages and if there is any doubts, Kelsey Brown is the proof. Brown showed what she was made of, causing some serious fits to the Kenedy JV team with her fine defensive efforts throughout the contest.
The varsity Lady Eagles took the court next and never gave it back. The Lady Eagles thumped Kenedy 48-25.
Tori Garza made two baskets from downtown early in the game and scored a total of 11 points for the night. Sarah Gill and Jessica Stanley both were high scorers in the match-up, Gill with 15 points and Stanley with 14.
Defensively the Lady Eagles were strong, only allowing Kenedy six field goals. Chloe Garza and Paige Fox were both evident on defense on the night for the Lady Eagles.
Next up at the Eagles’ nest, the varsity girls took on Nordheim on Tuesday night. The varsity boys’ team began their season against the Nordheim Pirates that same evening.
The Eagles will have a four-game schedule on Friday night with both the JV and varsity boys’ and girls’ teams in action. The Charlotte Trojans pay a visit to Pettus with the earliest JV contest tipping off at 4 p.m. The varsity girls are set for a 6:15 start with the boys’ varsity hitting the hardwood at about 7:30 p.m.
