Pedro R. Treviño Jr. of Freer was ordained a permanent deacon for the Diocese of Corpus Christi on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. He was one of 22 men ordained by Bishop Edmond Carmody. This special ceremony was shared by many priests, religious brothers and sisters, family and friends.

Treviño was born and raised in Beeville and was an active member of St. James Church. He is the son of the late Pedro T. Treviño and Lupita Treviño. He is the brother of Estella Gonzalez, Daniel and Yolanda Ramirez of Beeville, and Jose and Kathy Treviño of Freer. He is the husband of Rose Marie Treviño and they have two sons, Peter Joseph of Freer and Matthew and Lily Treviño of Corpus Christi.

After giving his first homily during the 11 o’clock Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer, parishioners, family and friends honored the new deacon with a reception.

In addition to his responsibilities as deacon, he is also the Altar Server sponsor, Sacristans director and Adult Religious Education instructor at St. Mary’s, where he is currently assigned.
