Beeville businesses which wish to apply for one of the $6,000 matching grants for facade improvements will be able to submit an application in two weeks.

“Applications will be available at the Main Street Office beginning at 8 a.m. Dec. 8,” said Beeville Main Street Manager Molly Young.

The office is located inside the Beeville Community Center at 111 E. Corpus Christi St.

Young is managing the program for the Beeville Economic Improvement Corporation and the City of Beeville.

“The owner of the business must appear in person, or the manager in case of an absentee owner, and sign out an application,” Young said.

Applications may be picked up between Dec. 8 and Jan. 18. The applicant must provide a detailed description of the project to be undertaken and submit a drawing or rendering of the work to be performed, a copy of at least one bid or written estimate and information on the methods and materials to be used.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a first-come, first-serve basis on Jan. 20 at 8:00am. Applications will be processed between then and Jan. 29, at which time they will be presented to the EIC at their regular January meeting. The board will approve the grant applications and the recipients will be notified the following day.

“The EIC views this as a pilot project and hopes to get a good idea of who might be interested in the program so that they can begin working on an additional phase,” Young said. “This grant is intended to promote the development and expansion of new and existing business enterprises within the City of Beeville. There are certain provisions for repayment if a business closes within a defined amount of time.”

Although the grants originally were supposed to be only for businesses outside the Main Street Program boundaries in downtown Beeville, any business within the city may now apply for them.
