The Three Rivers Chamber of Commerce holiday luncheon is scheduled for this Sunday (Dec.7) after church from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Student Activity Center cafeteria at Three Rivers School. The chamber is making preparations to feed approximately 1,200 and everyone is invited to come and enjoy the food and fellowship.
“There will be a major change in the TR Chamber annual free community holiday luncheon,” said Lloyd Grubbs, President of the Chamber. “This year there will be no carry outs. We are doing this because of the increasing cost of food and to keep the serving lines moving – one person one plate,” Grubbs stated.
“This has become a community tradition and we are pleased to be able to do it for the 19th year. This is one way we can thank the citizens of Three Rivers for their support of the local businesses,” he said. The traditional Christmas dinner with turkey and dressing is made possible through the support of First State Bank, Valero Three Rivers Refinery, and First National Bank and area churches that provide the desserts. FCI Three Rivers inmates will assist with the preparation and serving of the meal and clean-up.
In conjunction with the luncheon the Three Rivers Community Choir will present the Christmas Cantata “Emmanuel” arranged by Russell Mauldin. The 30 voice choir is made up of members of the local area churches who have been preparing since August for this presentation.
Food will be delivered to shut-ins and those who do not drive by the Three Rivers Volunteer Fire Department. The TR Chamber is seeking names of shut-ins and citizens who do not drive so they can deliver a Christmas dinner to them.
Anyone knowing a shut-in who would like a meal should call the Chamber of Commerce office at 786-4330. Names of shut-ins should be called to the Chamber at 786-4330. “We want to make sure that everyone who is not able to get to the dinner is served a good hot meal,” Grubbs concluded.
