AUSTIN – State Rep. Yvonne Gonzalez Toureilles, a member of the House Energy Resources Committee, participated in two separate hearings last week related to the committee’s interim study assignments.

The day after co-chairing two joint interim hearings as chairwoman of the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee, Rep. Toureilles and her fellow Energy Resources Committee members joined the House State Affairs Committee in hearing testimony from a variety of stakeholders. Among those testifying before the joint committees were energy production and pipeline industry representatives, state energy regulatory officials, environmental and consumer groups.

The committees are charged with reviewing the state’s portfolio of electric generation resources, including traditional sources, emerging renewable technologies and energy efficiency. The committees will determine whether the existing state regulatory programs and incentives are adequate to meet the future energy needs of the state.

“As our state continues to grow at a tremendous rate, the need to address our long-term energy needs and options is crucial,” Toureilles said. “We will also continue to work towards exploring and developing our resources in a prudent and responsible way.”

The Energy Resources Committee held a separate hearing the following day to monitor legislation passed last session dealing with carbon capture and storage. The committee also heard testimony related to the establishment of uniform statutes related to liquid petroleum gas (LPG) operations.
