Some main thoroughfares in Beeville will get a face lift in the near future.

Hunter Industries of San Marcos has been contracted to redo parts of Business 181, St. Mary’s Street and U.S. 59.

The $5,750,549 roadway rehabilitation and drainage project is estimated to be completed in about a year, weather permitting.

The work will consist of:

• South St. Mary’s St. – Drainage and roadway rehabilitation from Cleveland to Poesta Creek.

Work on St. Mary’s Street will require the roadway to be closed one block at a time starting at Poesta Creek to place new drainage boxes.

• Business 181 (Washington Street) – Drainage and roadway rehabilitation from U.S. 59 to Cleveland.

Work on Business 181 will require the roadway to be closed one block at a time starting at Poesta Creek to place new drainage boxes.

• U.S. 59 – Roadway rehabilitation from Hillside Drive to Business 181. Work along U.S. 59 will be on half of the roadway at a time, with traffic reduced to one 11-foot lane in each direction starting at Hillside.

Construction is scheduled to begin Dec. 3 on that portion of the project. Construction Signage will be placed along these roads.

Work on St. Mary’s at Poesta Creek is scheduled to begin Dec. 8.

Work on U.S. 59 is also scheduled to begin Dec. 8.

Construction operations are being monitored for the Texas Department of Transportation through the Karnes City office of Area Engineer Ralph Condra.
