She was born on November 1, 1947, to Jack & Billie Lowe in Abilene, Texas. His family later moved to Alice, Texas, and Jackie graduated from William Adams High School. She married Walter E. (Butch) Smith Jr. on February 18, 1967, they were married for 41 years.
Jackie was employed by the Skidmore-Tynan Independent School District and retired in April of 2007. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beeville and played the hand bells. She was a very active member in the community of Skidmore and Bee County. Jackie was a Bee County 4-H Club Manager and Little League Team Sponsor. She also belonged to The American Quarter Horse Association, Texas Women for Parimutual, Bee County Jr. Livestock Show Board, The Lions Club, and Bee County Horse Show Committee.
Jackie was preceded in the death by a daughter Jimmie Clay Smith; her parents, Jack & Billie Lowe; and her grandparents, Jake & Jimmie Sedberry.
Jackie is survived by her husband Walter E. (Butch) Smith Jr.; one son, Thomas R. Smith; a daughter, Sammie Ann Smith; and two grandsons, Forest C. Smith and Dillon Stautzenberger; and also one granddaughter, Laci MaLynn Stautzenbeger. Her sister-in-law Sissy Starlin; nephew, James (Denise) Starlin; and nieces, Joyce (Joe) Rocha and Jennifer (Michael) Benavidez; as well as three great nephews and three great nieces.
Visitation was held Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at Treviño Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. A Memorial Video will be shared with everyone at 6:30 p.m. that same evening. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at The First Presbyterian Church in Beeville, Texas, beginning at 10 a.m. Internment to follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Skidmore, Texas.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Austin Knox, Renato Ramirez, Dale Elrod, Ricky Ramirez, Roger Fagan, Jr. Mendoza, Charlie Wynn, and Mike Weeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Leonard Fluitt, Rudy Salinas, Rocky Stautzenberger, Jaime Mendoza, Doyle Davis, Howard Duge, Richard Coutu, and Ralph Stubenthal.
