Bee County Crime Stoppers announced this week that the reward being offered for information leading to an arrest in a spate of recent burglaries has been increased from $1,000 to $1,500.

The announcement was made after victims of the burglaries met with Crime Stoppers representatives and later with Detective Lt. Rene Guerrero of the Beeville Police Department.

Guerrero said only one burglary in the northeast part of town, where the others took place, has been reported in recent days.

The detective said officers interviewed a suspect in that incident, where a shotgun and case were reported missing from a home on East Bowie Street. He said the suspect was detained on unrelated warrants but he was not sure the suspect had anything to do with the earlier burglaries.

The lieutenant said that victim in that case had electronics devices, including a television, games and other items, that could have been taken but were not.

Guerrero said police have investigated about nine recent burglaries in that same part of town. In the first four incidents, the thief seemed to have targeted large, flat-panel display televisions that might have been spotted from the street when the victims had their front doors open during the evening hours.

“They never seem to go west of Adams or east of Archer streets,” Guerrero said of the person or persons responsible for the burglaries.

“Hopefully somebody knows something or has seen something,” Guerrero said. He also hopes the higher reward at this time of year may encourage someone to come forward.

Guerrero said there is always someone out in the community who knows who is committing the thefts.
