The main event of the evening was the installation of new members: Irene Perez, Phyllis Vaughn, Laura Veth and Irene Zimmer. Lana Massengale conducted the initiation and was assisted by Jan Anderson and Pamela Burge. The sponsors of the new members were Donna Patton, Susie Kotara, Pam Kerlick and Erie Head. Mark Witte provided Christmas carols as the prelude for the occasion in the church sanctuary.
Following the installation, the group went to the fellowship hall to dine. Ruth Hollman gave the collect and Carol Gaskamp led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The three committees recognized at the Table of Honor were membership, ceremonies and music. The teachers on the committees were Betty Thornton, Carol Williams, Alice Whitley, Pam Hemby, Marie Ortiz-Fernandez, Lana Massengale, Erie Head, Marilyn Hanna, Marianne Peters, Karen Knowlton, Frieda Hartzendorf, Cheryl Burris, Debbie Fulton, Penny Armstrong, Joyce Homeyer and Pam Jeanes.
John Wheat gave an interesting talk about a lost figurine of the baby Jesus from a manger and how the people of a small town helped a poor single mother have a nice Christmas celebration for her children. He ended his presentation by telling the teachers that “Silent Night” was first played on a guitar in a church because the organ was broken. Then he led the group by playing the guitar and singing the song.
Another treat that the group heard was a handbell and flute ensemble composed of Catherine Thornton, Pam Jeanes, Carol Williams, Jan Anderson and Irene Perez. They played two Christmas carols. On one of the songs, Laura Veth played her flute.
The meeting adjourned with Frieda Hartzendorf leading the singing of the “Delta Kappa Gamma Song.”
