Despite actual global temperatures dropping for the past decade, proponents argue that we’re now at the “tipping point” and must act quickly to install new measures to save the earth. That tipping point may have more to do with politics than with the earth overheating.
More than 650 international scientists are now on record in dissent over claims of man-made global warming. Yet proponents are quick to say the debate is over and we must act now.
Perhaps they would like the debate to be over because despite what their computer models show, the actual temperatures don’t support it. In fact, there’s mounting data showing the earth moving into a miniature ice age. The polar ice cap is rapidly expanding now and a cold Alaskan summer left snow unmelted and has glaciers expanding.
Obviously, we’re not scientists here at a community newspaper, but the major media outlets continue to portray scientists who are skeptical as being a fringe minority. There are far more who question/oppose global warming theories than who have signed off on it.
Some of the flaws they point out in a U.S. Senate Minority report include:
• “Warming fears are the worst scientific scandal in the history… When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning Ph.D. environmental physical chemist.
• “The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” - Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
• “Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
• “Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is a dangerous nonsense… The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning.” - Environmental Scientist Professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, has more than 150 published articles.
Before we declare the issue settled and begin slapping new tariffs in the form of cap and trade, or even a sin tax on flatulent cattle and swine herds, it would seem some more debate is in order. There’s no debate that the new tariffs and silly carbon offsets that Al Gore and others would be profiting from will harm the economy and be particularly hard on the poor and working class citizenry. Perhaps we should examine this a little more closely because the actual temperatures are dropping despite the computer models.
The earth’s climate has always changed. Sunspot activity and ocean currents have been shown to impact these ebbs and flows of temperature. Computer models that don’t include the sun and ocean currents are likely to be as successful and accurate as, say, choosing a football champion through the BCS.
Count us among those who believe global warming, or global climate change, to be man-made... no, not the actual temperatures, just the media and political hysteria.

Simply put, what if we are wrong about global warming and our pollutants in fact end up contributing to a worse (instead of better) world for our children? By the time we agree, it will be too late.
By the way, its not really about global warming as it is about climate change and how that affects the world economy.
Not political hysteria, just erring on the side of caution as the alternative is too grave to bear.
Respectfully,
Rocky Alvarado
Cooler Year on a Cooling Planet
By Dr. Don Easterbrook
A better title would have been "A cooler year on a cooling planet." The Pacific Decadal Oscillation switched from its warm mode (1977-1998) to its cool mode in 1999 and we've had global cooling since. Each time this has happened in the past 100 years we've had three decades of cool global climate. We have switched from the Pacific cool mode to the warm mode in 1977 (The Great Climate Shift) and that ended in 1998 with the switch to the Pacific cool mode. We're going to have three decades of global cooling, just like we've always had when this happens. CO2 has nothing to do with it.
We've been doing this for hundreds of years, long before atmosphere CO2 increased from human emissions. The isotope record from the Greenland ice core (see below) confirms the 25-30 years oscillating pattern between warm and cool. We are right on schedule for 30 years of global cooling.
