Bernice and Arnold Macias attend Democratic Convention

Bernice and Arnold Macias of Bayside represented Refugio County at the Texas State Democratic Convention in Corpus Christi this weekend, June 25 and 26.

Approximately 200 delegates and alternates to the Texas Democratic Convention from Senate District 18, which includes Refugio County, met in Corpus Christi over the weekend to select their representatives to the State Democratic Executive Committee.

Representing the county were Bernice and Arnold Macias of Bayside.

“It was very interesting to meet the state representatives and delegates,” A. Macias said. “It was educational to learn about the political process.”

Bernice and Arnold Macias voted on various issues concerning property, the economy, agriculture, education and health care.

“Anyone who would like to know more about the convention are welcome to call us at 361-529-6442,” B. Macias said. “We’ll be glad to help the county in any way possible.”

Don Bankston of Fort Bend County and Vickie Vogel of Fayette County were re-elected for a third term. They will serve until the next convention in 2012.

Representatives from SD 18 to the permanent convention committees were also elected including Melissa Roth of Victoria County, Fredericka Allen and Don Payne of Fort Bend County, Mary Bishop of Bastrop County, and Huey Fischer of Aransas County).

Eighteen of the nineteen counties in SD 18 sent delegations to the convention.
