The game was broadcast live by various media outlets last Tuesday night. The spirited contest was played at the Alamodome in conjunction with the high school coaches’ convention.
Playing offensive guard for the South squad, Hernandez opened holes all night and helped protect the South QBs. Games are won and lost up front and Hernandez helped the South to a 36-23 victory.
“It was great to see a Skidmore-Tynan athlete participate and play at the level he did against the best in the state. All of us here at S-T and I’m certain Bee County are very proud of Matt’s performance and we all wish him well in his football future,” said S-T head coach Dan Garza.
Playing in the game is by invitation only and the game showcases some of the best high school football talent in the state. Hernandez fit in just fine from the Bee County division 2A program at S-T. All divisions are represented with players coming from all across the state. Most have already signed to play football at the next level.
Hernandez hopes to take his power and strength to Blinn Junior College next year.
I really like the small town feel to the Blinn College area,” said Hernandez.
“There was a very big talent jump from 2A but everyone there really fit in well together,” said Hernandez of the THSCA game.
“It was extremely fun and I wish I could do it again.”
The Buccaneers are getting a powerful addition to their offensive or defensive line. Hernandez was a 30-2A All-District unanimous choice first team selection along the offensive line.
